The Omni Hotel at CNN Center has hired SHANNON W. DERRICK as national sales manager to handle association and other group sales for the mid-Atlantic region from his satellite office in Washington, D.C.

Derrick is an active member of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), and a co-recipient of the 2005 International Tomorrow’s Leader Award, given to emerging leaders who impact the organization at the chapter and international levels. He currently serves as the vice president of education for the Potomac Chapter of MPI, the second largest chapter with more than 1,100 members. In July, he will take over responsibilities as vice president of communications for the Potomac Chapter.  Additionally, Derrick was selected to serve on the 2006 - 2007 Research Advisory panel, an international committee.  Derrick has served on the board of MPI’s Potomac chapter for three consecutive years, holding positions such as Member Care board director and membership recruitment chairperson.

Derrick has worked in hospitality sales since 1997.  Most recently, he was responsible for transient and group market sales for four Kimpton Hotels in the mid-Atlantic region and was accountable for the development of the sales and service managers for each hotel.  In addition, he managed the marketing efforts targeted to the GLBT community in the Washington, D.C. region.
