Attention-South Floridians  Benefit Women In Distress of Broward County annual WALK-RUN On Saturday, October 7, 2006, at Markham Park in Sunrise, FL at 7:30am.  Registration opens at 7am.

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, the 8th Annual 5K SAFE Walk-Run will take place in Markham Park in Sunrise, FL at 7:30am.  Registration opens at 7am.  All proceeds from this event benefit Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc.  WID is an organization that is committed to building awareness about and stopping domestic violence in my community.  I will again be volunteering, starting at 5:30am.  And for those of you that know me well, 5:30am is a major commitment so you can just imagine how important this event is to me.

This is the first time I have ever reached out to friends and clients to assist me in my personal mission to help stop domestic violence.  October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  One in four women has had a personal experience with domestic violence.  Chances are you have known a victim, whether it is a friend, family member, co-worker, or the person you see in the mirror.  The statistics are alarming because it is a silent epidemic.  A shocking 61% of female homicide victims are wives or intimate acquaintances of their killers.  Domestic violence affects everyone.

If you are in South Florida, you can walk or run, even create your own team.  Registration is $20.  If you create a team and raise $1,000, your registrations are waived for all of your team members.  Runners will be timed.  Tee shirts, a goodie bag and breakfast snacks will be provided to all registrants.

If you cannot/do not want to walk/run  but would still like to help, you can make a donation online.

Your donation will be greatly appreciated.  Women in Distress is a non-profit organization so your donation will be tax-deductible.  Please take a moment to think of what you can give of yourself for this event-not only for those you know personally that have been affected, but for the many more that need organizations like Women in Distress to turn to for help and safety.
