Wilderness Press has partnered with The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy to publish a brand new series of official guidebooks for the nationwide rail-trails system. Built on unused railroad corridors, rail-trails offer gentle grades and easy access for all types of recreation enthusiasts. The first book in the new series, Rail-Trails Southeast, has just been released.
Rail-Trail Southeast takes walkers, hikers, and bikers on trails that pass through historic battlefields, lead to the world’s largest cast-iron statue, travel through a gorge, or pass by beaver and heron habitat. Notable trips include North Carolina’s Gold Hill Rail-Trail, Florida’s West Orange Trail, or Georgia’s 50 mile Silver Comet Trail. Enjoy a brisk fitness walk, bike ride, or family outing on the best of the rail-trails of America’s Southeastern states.
The new books have an easy-to-use layout and two-color design, clear maps, and precise trip descriptions. Book features include:
• New two-color maps for every trail that include start- and end-points,trailheads, parking, restroom facilities, and other amenities.
• Trail use icons for hiking, road and mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, wheelchair use, and rollerblading.
• Succinct trail and attraction descriptions by the rail-trail experts.
This book is part of the series of official Rails-to-Trails Conservancy guides. The Conservancy has over 100,000 members and supporters across the country dedicated to converting former railroads into multi-use trails. Rail-Trails Mid-Atlantic is due out later this fall, with Rail-Trails New England expected in the spring.
