The Grosvenor Resort, the closest resort to Downtown Disney® and its Pleasure Island® nighttime entertainment complex, became the REGAL SUN RESORT on September 1, 2007. The new name corresponds with the completion of an extensive $25 million property-wide renovation and enhancement. Every aspect of the resort is being touched by the project, which includes remodeling all guest rooms and suites, the meeting space, the lobby, the restaurants and lounges, the pool area, guest room corridors, and pre-function space. The project is well underway and will be complete on time, according to Jayne Barrett, general manager of the 626-room lakefront resort.

“As our resort is new in virtually every respect, we strongly felt a new name would much better reflect our dramatically improved resort,” said Barrett. “The new name, Regal Sun Resort, was chosen because it conveys both ‘luxury’ and ‘fun.’ ‘Regal’ refers to our ideal location inside the Walt Disney World® Resort and near its Magic Kingdom® Park, as well as our beautiful new upscale décor. While ‘Sun’ reflects our status as a tropical lakeside resort in the Sunshine State.”

Barrett added, “We’ve always had an ideal location an easy walk right across the street to the Downtown Disney® Marketplace, Pleasure Island, and Downtown Disney® West Side. Now our greatly enhanced resort and new name perfectly match our truly magical location.”

The resort’s all-new lobby is now complete and now boasts a stunning smooth bamboo hardwood floor upon entering, which leads to brightly colored plush carpet with a festive tropical “Bermuda” theme. A new Lobby Bar has been designed which is adjacent to a new “kids’ recreation zone” equipped with a large television, an array of games (such as Nintendo WiiTM) and fun décor, so that parents can enjoy relaxing at the Lobby Bar while still being able to watch the kids nearby.

The resort has also enlarged and enhanced its Market Place in the lobby, which offers an assortment of self-service food and beverage items, and now also offers Starbucks® products.

All of the resort’s 619 guest rooms and 7 suites were totally remodeled, as are the guest room corridors. Guest rooms feature all-new furniture, soft goods, plush pillowtop mattresses, new wall coverings and beautiful artwork. Rooms and suites now have rich red bed covers, crisp white linens, royal blue carpet and stylish furnishings. Guest room corridors boast new carpeting, wall coverings, lighting, and beautiful drapes.

Many of the rooms and suites feature incredible views of the Walt Disney World® theme parks and of Downtown Disney®, which includes impressive views of nightly fireworks displays at the theme parks and at Pleasure Island®. Other rooms feature panoramic views of the Orlando area and/or of the Downtown Disney® Resort area. All rooms and suites are equipped with a refrigerator, high-speed wireless Internet access, data ports, iron and ironing board, in-room coffee, hairdryer, radio alarm clock/MP3 adapter, in-room safe, and pay-per-view movies.

The 19,000 square feet of flexible meeting space was enhanced with all-new carpet in the ballroom, meeting rooms, boardrooms, and pre-function areas. The space is also receiving new wall coverings, new chairs, and new tablecloths and linens.

The resort will debut a new larger restaurant, offering impressive views overlooking scenic Lake Buena Vista, and the site of MurderWatch Mystery Theatre dinners each Saturday evening. The adjacent bar is more open, upscale and chic in matching with the restaurant’s décor.

Possibly the most impressive change to the resort will be the many dramatic enhancements planned for its pool area. The already-large existing two-pool area will be doubled in size, and will soon feature a huge clover leaf-shaped pool that will have a gradual “beach entry,” many fun interactive water features for the kids (including water cannons that spray), and lush landscaping. There is also a large hot tub on a raised platform that will overlook both the pool and the picturesque lake. While the rest of the $25 million renovation project is slated for completion by September 1, the pool enhancements are to be complete by November 2007. At least one pool will remain open throughout the enhancement project.

“Our pool will be dramatic, lush, and a huge focal point of the resort,” said Barrett. “There won’t be many pools in Central Florida – or in the rest of Florida -- that will even come close.”

Ideally located an easy walk right across the street to Downtown Disney®, which includes the Downtown Disney® Marketplace, Downtown Disney West Side, and Pleasure Island, the Regal Sun Resort is the closest resort to their impressive restaurants, theaters, shows, shops, and nightclubs.

On-site offerings at Regal Sun Resort include Disney Character Breakfasts, complimentary scheduled transportation to all of the Walt Disney World® theme parks and water parks, discounted Disney tickets, two tennis courts, a basketball court, a game room, and a poolside restaurant and bar in addition to its other dining options.

Meeting space can accommodate groups up to 1,200, and the resort features an on-site AV company, as well as wireless Internet throughout the resort. Groups have the ability to conduct events at exclusive locations within the Disney theme parks, and guests and groups at the resort also have privileges on all of Disney’s golf courses.
