REUNION GOLF CLASSIC Presented by Reno-Tahoe Celebrating 25 years of Meeting Industry Golf Events

Twenty-five years ago Gus Duda and Jimmy Carter created the DC Invitational Golf Tournament. It was the first national tournament in the hospitality industry with no restrictions as to gender or business affiliation, and open to anyone in the industry.  Under their stewardship it had a very successful run for twenty-one years, and then they presented it to Gr. Washington Society of Association Executives as a gift to the Association community.  GWSAE (now merged with ASAE and The Center) still operates the DCI.

In establishing that first event in 1983, it was discovered that there were no other golf tournaments in the hospitality industry which were open to everyone in the industry, not limited by gender, and with no ties to any business.  Truly, it was the beginning of golf in the meetings industry, and since 2008 marks the 25th anniversary of  golf in our industry,  it serves as the impetus for this Reunion.

The Reunion 2008, will be held May 28 – 31> in the Reno-Tahoe area, with lodging at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino and tournament play at the spectacular mountain courses, Coyote Moon and Old Greenwood.

Our room block at the Hyatt terminates Friday May 30, but we think a lot of our guests will want “One More Night In Nevada”, and will welcome the offer of the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, to a one-night stay in a luxurious suite (special rate of $69.00); a $20.00 “credit” in the resort’s new Reserve Wine Club, and a free shuttle to the airport on Sunday for your flight home.  The resort is five minutes from the airport.  To take advantage of this offer, call 1-775-789-2000.  Ask for the reservations desk and identify the group as “Reunion Golf Classic”.  Or go on-line at www.grandsierraresort.com

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

“The Reunion” is a two person team, fully handicapped stroke play competition.  First round is the best “net” ball per hole; Second round is both balls “net”.  USGA rules will apply and teams will exchange scorecards with their playing partner team to assist with scoring memory.  Most recent Index cards must be submitted and will be verified.   If you don’t have a current handicap, we will require a five round history with course slope rating.  All handicaps assigned will be subject to adjustment following play, if deemed appropriate by the rules committee of PGA professionals. All rules committee rulings will be final.

Teams will be competing for $15,000 in casino tokens.  Please be advised that these prizes may affect amateur status and are subject to IRS reporting.

TRANSPORTATION

All airport transfers are the responsibility of the individual.  Cabs are available, but fares from Reno to the Hyatt will be approximately $95 each way.  The North Lake Tahoe Express will offer much cheaper transfers (approximately $25 each way).  And will be ready to take reservations after March 1st.  Online reservations will be available at www.northlaketahoeexpress.com

*CALCUTTA

One of the more exciting features of this event is the “Auctioning of Teams”.  Each two person team will hit the auction block ($50 minimum bid) and may be purchased by anyone or any syndicated group representative in the room.  There is no limit as to the number of teams purchased, but every team purchased by a syndicate or other entity must be offered a buy-back of up to 50% by the purchaser, prior to the opening round.  Expect team prices to range from $50 to $1000 (some of you will really be confident), with a total Calcutta pool of around $15,000.

The Calcutta pool will be spilt between the owners of the top 5 finish teams each day and overall.
