SHANGRI-LA HOTELS and RESORTS, Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotel group, launched its nationwide charity moon cake sale in July 2008. The aim was to raise RMB1.5 million for its charity partner, Care for Children, an organisation that helps rebuild children’s lives through foster care. Shangri-La properties in mainland China joined forces and raised more than RMB1.7 million. Care for Children will use the donations to train local workers to support foster parents and orphans.
This is the group’s second charity moon cake sale. In its first moon cake sale last year, Shangri-La sold over 37,000 boxes and helped raise RMB1.6 million (USD206,451) – the goal was to raise RMB1 million -- for Care for Children.
Shangri-La currently operates 26 hotels in mainland China, located in Beihai, Beijing, Baotou, Changchun, Changzhou, Chengdu, Dalian, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Harbin, Huhhot, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Wuhan, Xian and Zhongshan.
Established in 1998, the Care for Children charity is a Beijing-based non-profit organisation that works in partnership with national and local governments to introduce foster care and other strategic initiatives for orphans and other needy Chinese children. It has trained workers in over 184 orphanages throughout China and transformed thousands of children’s lives as they move into their own families for the first time. Shangri-La became Care for Children’sfirst and only hotel group corporate partner in 2005.
